Prince Kuhio Celebration 2014
These festivities (March 15 – 29) pay tribute to Kauai’s Prince Kuhio, who was born in Koloa 143 years ago this month. The grandson of the last high chief of Kauai, Prince Kuhio served in Congress from 1902-1922 as a territorial delegate. He was responsible for passing the Hawaiian Homesteads Act which still provides low-cost housing and farming land to those who are at least 50% Hawaiian. He dedicated his life to the well-being and future of his people, and in recognition, his birthday on March 26th is a state holiday.
