Great Celebrations Saturday 5/10

The Centennial celebration of both the Kauai Historical Society and the Historic County Building will start on the lawn of the Old County  Building at 3:00 P.M.  MC Ron Wiley will start off things in his own inimitable fashion!  Then Council chairman Jay Furfaro will lead tours of the 100-year-old County Building. He will lead tours at 5:00 and 7:00 as well. From 4 to 9 PM, people will enjoy the displays and cultural performances by Native Hawaiians and major plantation worker cultures who were on the island in 1914: Japanese, Okinawans, Filipinos, and Portuguese. People from Tonga began arriving in the 1960s for better education and lives, and they will share the culture they perpetuate. Kauai is truly a melting pot — enjoy the different cultures and their heritage.
